Man suffers ‘life-threatening’ injuries following assault in North East car park

Northumbria Police are appealing for more information after a man was the victim of an alleged assault at a car park opposite Guide Post Square, on Stakeford Terrace, Guide Post at around 10:15pm on Wednesday (August 23).

Police were alerted by medical staff at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington to an injured man in their care shortly after 8:20am on Wednesday (August 23).

It was reported that the man in his 30s had suffered serious head injuries and attended the hospital to be checked over in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for information after a man was left with life-threatening injuries following an assault in Northumberland.

“Shortly after 8.20am on Wednesday, August 23, police were alerted by medical staff at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington to an injured man in their care.

“It was reported that the man – in his 30s – had suffered serious head injuries and attended the hospital to be checked over in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“The man was then admitted to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.”

Police have since launched an investigation and officers are treating the man’s injuries as having been inflicted during an assault.

The assault is believed to have taken place at a car park opposite Guide Post Square, on Stakeford Terrace, Guide Post, at about 10.15pm on Tuesday, August 22.

Officers arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has now been charged with the offence and is due to appear before Bedlington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The investigation remains ongoing and officers continue to carry out their enquiries.

They are asking for anyone else who might have information, particularly those with dashcam footage from vehicles which passed the area, to come forward.
