One person in hospital after County Durham crash that sees police close road

Emergency services were called to the junction of Shields Row Lane on the A693 in Annfield Plain on Saturday (December 30) at about 7.30pm. 

The collision was between two cars, which saw police shut off the A693 and parts of Shields Row Lane, while paramedics also attended the scene. 

The road was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to work at the scene. 

Following the incident, the North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We received a call to 999 at 7.30pm on December 30 to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of A693 and Shield Row Lane, near Anfield Plain in Durham. 

“We sent one emergency ambulance crew and a rapid response paramedic. 

“We took one patient to University Hospital North Durham for further treatment.”

Durham Police has been contacted about a comment in relation to this incident.
