Two men were arrested after a patrol team stopped the vehicle on Marine Parade West in Lee-on-the-Solent at 1am on Saturday (September 16).

They were initially stopped due to anti-social driving, police say.

Officers arrested the driver – a 20-year-old man – on suspicion of driving whilst over the specified limit for cannabis and for possession with intent to supply a class B drug.

A 22-year-old man, who was a passenger in the vehicle was arrested later that morning after officers made an unannounced visit at his home address.

The 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, possession of class B drugs with intent to supply, and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, namely a knuckleduster.

Both men have been bailed with conditions until December 16.

In a Facebook post, Gosport Police said: “Officers were conducting patrols on Marine Parade in Lee-on-the-Solent due to ongoing issues in the area with anti-social driving when a car with a rather loud exhaust caught the attention of officers.

“Upon stopping the vehicle, a strong smell of cannabis amongst other tell-tale signs led to all of the occupants being searched under S23 of the Misuse of Drugs act as well as the driver being subject to a roadside drug wipe.

“Unfortunately for him, he failed the test and was arrested for driving whilst over the specified limit for cannabis.

“Things went from bad to worse for the driver when a large quantity of suspected cannabis was located inside the vehicle leading to him being further arrested for possession with intent to supply a class B drug.”
