Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance and have closed off part of the road, although traffic is not being affected.

It comes after a “mini tornado” hit nearby Littlehampton on Monday as Sussex was battered by heavy rain and lightning.

Trees were broken in two, windows of cars and homes smashed and tiles ripped from roofs.

Tomorrow is also set to be windy with gusts of up to 46mph in Worthing.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “We received a call at 5.48pm to a fallen tree at Whitebeam Road, Worthing.

“Joint fire control mobilised one fire engine and our technical rescue unit to the scene.

“Sussex Police was also in attendance. Upon arrival crews found a large tree which had fallen into a house and cordoned the affected area. Firefighters worked to make the area safe.

“The crews left the scene at 6.52pm.”
