Alexander Stacey has been sentenced to three years and nine months after being convicted of possession with intent to supply the class A drug.

The 27-year-old was stopped by Cheshire Police while travelling along the M6 earlier this year and found to be in possession of up to £114,000 worth of cocaine.

Detective Sergeant Laura Fox said: “With the strength of the evidence we were able to gather, Stacey had little choice other than to plead guilty to the offences put to him.

“His conviction and the significant custodial sentence handed to him by Chester Crown Court are the results of great work by the investigating officer, PC Harry Bayley of Macclesfield Area Investigation Team, and all other officers involved in the case, which shows the value of police stop checks.

“What started as a basic stop check resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of class A drugs.

“On top of that, Stacey is now behind bars facing the consequences of his actions.

“I hope that his sentence acts as a warning to others and sends out a clear message that if you come to Cheshire to commit crime, you will be caught and you will be brought to justice.”

Stacey, of Devereux Road in Wiltshire, was stopped while driving along the slip road on junction 18  of the M6 at around 1.40pm on April 17.

His vehicle, a black Vauxhall Insignia, caught patrol officers attention as it was untaxed and, as it turned out, had an expired MOT.

He was pulled over and officers conducted a stop check, during which a backpack full of cocaine was discovered in the rear footwell.

Cheshire Police say the drugs had an estimated value of between £48,000 and £114,000.

Stacey was arrested and subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine).

He pleaded guilty before appearing at Chester Crown Court on Thursday (October 5) where he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
