The arrest was made in Halliwell, just days  after officers warned motorists to be vigilant after a spate of car break-ins.

The man was arrested in the early hours of Saturday.

Officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood team arrested him in relation to damage to a motor vehicle and attempted theft from a motor vehicle.

He is now in police custody and is awaiting questioning.

Officers are now appealing to the public for any dashcam, or CCTV footage and they are advising people to protect their houses and vehicles.

They want the public to ensure all doors and windows are secure, to not leave any valuables inside vehicles or any items on display.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Last night, after a series of incidents in the Halliwell area, officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team arrested a male in relation to a damage to motor vehicle and attempt theft from motor vehicle which occurred during the early hours of Saturday 21st October 2023.

“The male is now in Police custody awaiting questioning.

“Please ensure all doors and windows are secure, do not leave any valuables inside your vehicle or any items on display.

“If anyone has any CCTV or dash cam footage, please contact us on 101 or online on the GMP website.”

Earlier this week police issued  a warning to car owners to make sure their cars are locked and no valuables left inside after a spate of theft from vehicles.

Officers say there have been an increase of such thefts in the Halliwell  area and are urging motorists to make sure their cars are locked, the windows are up, and nothing valuable is left in view.

Police also appealed for anyone with CCTV of any thefts in the area to come forward and urged people to report any thefts.
