Two more animals killed on New Forest roads as darker evenings return

A foal was badly injured on the B3054 at Beaulieu Heath and a cow was hurt on the B3078 Brook to Roundhill Road. Both animals were humanely destroyed by the agisters.
Three other accidents in the week starting October 16 resulted in animals being less seriously injured.
They involved a foal on the B3078 at Black Gutter, a pony on the Wilverley to Marlpit Oak road, and a pig at Lyndhurst Road, Minstead.
Four of the five collisions occurred between 5pm and 7.30pm.
Animal accidents in the Forest tend to increase at this time of year, when workers find themselves driving home in the dark – often in bad weather.
November and December are said to be the deadliest two months of the year for ponies and other livestock.
Campaigners are urging drivers to take extra care.
