Renault Kiger: Sporty New Variant In The Works

[ad_1]

Renault India is planning to introduce a sporty variant for its Kiger compact SUV. The car is expected to come with cosmetic changes; no mechanical changes will be done. The sporty Kiger is likely to feature cosmetic changes, such as contrasting accents on certain body panels and brake callipers. Changes to the front and rear bumpers are also anticipated, along with the possible introduction of Renault’s new logo. The interior will retain its design, but it could adopt a sportier theme to match the exterior.

This variant is expected to be based on the top-spec RXZ trim, offering the same features and safety equipment. It is likely to be powered solely by the 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. As it is a sportier version, it won’t offer the 72hp, 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine.

It is unclear if Renault will offer both manual and CVT options in this iteration of Kiger. Mileage is a great plus point of the Kiger. The NA engine has an ARAI certified mileage of 20.5 km/L. On the other hand, the turbo petrol engine has an ARAI certified mileage of 18.24 km/L.

Kiger may feel underpowered to some, and it is definitely not an enthusiast friendly car. Compared to the Venue N Line, which is powered by a 1.0 litre engine producing 118 hp, the Kiger feels significantly underpowered. The sportier variant of the SUV is targeted at people who are in the market for a different looking car, which just gets them from point A to point B.

The Kiger RXZ trim offers numerous features including a fully digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, auto dimming IRVM, cruise control, steering mounted controls and electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs.

The Kiger does not lack in terms of safety as well. The SUV scored a 4-star crash test rating in GNCAP. It boasts safety features such as four airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear parking camera and front parking sensors (optional). Renault recently launched the 2024 iteration of the Kiger. The update introduced some additional features, such as a new upholstery shade, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and red brake callipers for a sportier look.

In terms of pricing, the sportier Kiger is expected to be slightly more expensive than the top-spec RXZ Turbo variant. The current prices for the Renault Kiger RXZ turbo variant are Rs 10.23 lakh for the manual and Rs 11.23 lakh for the CVT.

The sportier version of Kiger will rival the Hyundai Venue N Line, which is priced between Rs 12.08 lakh and Rs 13.90 lakh. However, it’s important to note that the Venue N Line offers additional features like a sportier sounding exhaust, tweaks to the suspension, a new sportier steering wheel and improved performance & handling.

Renault Kiger competes in the Sub-4m compact SUV segment in India. It faces stiff competition from other players such as Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Citroen C3 Aircross and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
