Rolls-Royce Teases New Bespoke Ghost Inspired By A Celestial Phenomenon

Rolls-Royce is back at it again, and it appears to be preparing to reveal a new, special-edition model. So far, the automaker has only hinted at what’s to come with a darkened image on social media, but it seems to to be a custom take on the Ghost that will be revealed on October 12.

In fact, based on the fuel economy figures that Rolls-Royce was forced to share with this image, we can be certain that it’s the Ghost, since it gets 17.9 MPG/15.8 L/100 km on the WLTP cycle.

Unfortunately, the only other piece of solid information we get besides the fuel economy and the reveal date, is that the car will be inspired by a “celestial phenomenon.” Of course, this won’t be the first time Rolls-Royce uses the skies as a muse.

Beyond the starry headliner it has become famous for, the automaker has released a number of models inspired by celestial phenomena in the past. In fact, in 2013, it released the Phantom Celestial.

Inspired by the fact that BMW took ownership of Rolls-Royce at midnight on January 1, 2003, the special edition model featured dark paint that was meant to evoke the night sky. Inside, the starlight headliner was a perfect recreation of the skies as they appeared on that special date.

More recently, the automaker released the Cullinan Blue Shadow, which features an “Edge of Space Headliner.” Its fiber optic stars were complemented by a hand-stitched moon that was woven into the headliner over the course of two days.

Custom one- and few-off models have become a more important part of the luxury market recently, and Rolls-Royce has taken advantage of that trend. Over the last decade and a half, the brand says that it has started selling more “Bespoke” models than ever, helping to double the average value of the vehicles it sells.

Whatever is going on with this specific model, we will find out at 1 p.m. BST (8:00 a.m. EDT), on October 12. Check back in with us then to find out what Rolls-Royce has up its sleeve.
