Riding a motorcycle or any two-wheeler, for that matter, is a perilous task in any city in India. The chaos on Indian roads is just way too much, and maneuvering a powerful bike becomes extremely difficult. Recently, an accident involving one such powerful motorcycle – the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 – on a chaotic Indian road was shared online. In this particular incident, the rider of the Continental GT 650 crashed with an electric rickshaw that abruptly decided to make a U-turn on the road.
The video of this accident has been shared on YouTube by the owner of the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 on their channel, Rapid Rider. It starts off as a normal vlog where the presenter begins his ride on his bike from his home. He mentions that soon he will be taking a road trip on his new bike in Uttarakhand, and there is a lot to talk about. Soon after this, he is seen making a turn and accelerating. Suddenly, in the next moment, he crashes with an E-rickshaw that was making a U-turn on the road.
Who was at fault here?
Upon closer observation of the video, we can note the accident in detail. Firstly, we can note that the rider of the bike, although not at a very high speed, was still carrying a little more speed on the narrow and busy road than he should have. Moving ahead in the video, we could also note that the E-rickshaw with which he crashed came from a blind spot, as there was another E-rickshaw right before him.
The E-rickshaw in front can also be noted making an abrupt U-turn on the road without even looking at the incoming traffic. From our observations, it was predominantly the fault of the E-rickshaw driver. However, as mentioned above, the bike rider should not have been in such speed on a small busy road.
Consequence of the accident
In the video, after crashing into the E-rickshaw, we can see shards of glass and plastic from both the bike and rickshaw flying on the road. The video does not show the exact damages on both vehicles, but it can be noted that the E-rickshaw suffered a lot more damage on its right side. The Continental GT 650 also sustained some damages on the front fender and headlight.
Apart from the bike and the rickshaw, the rider also suffered an injury on his left leg. In the video, it can be noted that after the crash, his left leg got stuck between the wheel, engine, and the left side exhaust of the Continental GT 650. The rider was also seen agonizing in pain after his leg was stuck. He can be heard saying that his leg was burning because of the hot exhaust of the bike. Most likely, the rider must have also suffered from muscle pain because of the impact directly on his leg.
Lessons from this accident
From this accident, we can take a few different lessons. The first thing is that no matter how powerful the vehicle being driven is, it should be driven at safe speeds. Another thing to learn is to pay full attention to the road, as in India, anything can appear randomly on the road and cause such accidents. Lastly, proper riding gear is a must-have thing while driving such vehicles on the roads because of the protection that they provide.
