Sun Devils TE to enter transfer portal

Coming into the 2023 season, Arizona State Sun Devils tight end Jalin Conyers was expected to be an integral part of the offense. Now he finds himself in the transfer portal after announcing his decision on multiple social media platforms on Wednesday.

Primed to make a name for himself after putting up 346 receiving yards on 30 receptions with five touchdowns in the last five games of the 2022 season, Conyers struggled to replicate that success in 2023 with 362 yards on 30 receptions with zero receiving touchdowns.

With numerous injuries to the quarterback room being the main reason for his and the offense’s struggles, Conyers was even asked to take snaps at quarterback going five for six on pass attempts for 20 yards while adding 92 yards rushing on 22 carries with one touchdown.

Built like a wrecking ball at six-foot-four, 260 pounds Conyers is a versatile athlete who can beat his opponent with both power and speed.

The Sun Devils offense was hard to watch in 2023 and ended the season ranked 109th in the NCAA after averaging only 322.2 yards per game, down from the 387.2 yards they averaged in 2022.

This is a big blow to the Sun Devils as he wasn’t only a big part of their offense, but Conyers was a fan-favorite who meant a lot to the program during his three years in Tempe.

While NIL could have had a part to do with his decision to transfer, it’s more likely that Conyers is looking for a more stable situation for his last college season after the recent trouble with the program and their question marks on offense going forward.

A legit NFL prospect, Conyers will be looking for more consistent quarterback play at his next destination as he looks to improve his stock for the 2025 NFL Draft.
