Schenectady man arrested on gun and drug charges

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Schenectady man has been arrested following a drug sale investigation, according to the Saratoga Springs Police Department. Derek Labutta, 43, is facing multiple charges.
On March 16 at 10:30 a.m., officers observed two people at the Woodlawn Avenue public parking garage reportedly smoking an illegal substance in the vestibule. Police say one of the two people, identified as Labutta, was taken into custody for allegedly possessing a loaded firearm illegally in addition to multiple narcotics violations. He now faces the following charges:
Charges
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
Labutta was arraigned at Saratoga Springs City Court. He is being held pending an upcoming court date.
