Second transfer fair at the College of Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -The College of Saint Rose helped students plan for their future with a second transfer fair ahead of its closure. They estimate some 800 students are looking to continue their education.

Saint Rose first announced its closure towards the end of the 2023 fall semester. At the time, students told NEWS10 that the stress hit hard before finals but they continued pushing forward with their education.

“I could have either just wallowed in my room and stayed depressed or figured out what my next step in life is now that I’ve been dealt those cards,” described Tyler Byrd, a freshman majoring in education.

Over a dozen of the schools in attendance are teach-out partners that provide specific plans for students to complete their degrees without interruptions. “Waiving application fees, trying to match program course-by-course to make sure that it doesn’t take them any longer to graduate once they leave here,” stated Interim Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management at Saint Rose, Patrick Quinn.

Colleges not involved in the program are still welcoming transfers with accommodations. “We are a very transfer-friendly institution at Manhattanville. We actually accept up to 90 credits so we accept nearly three full years of students and their credits and whatnot,” explained Senior Assistant Director at Manhattanville College for Undergraduate Admissions, Erica Harris.

For those graduating, Saint Rose will hold its commencement on May 11. But for the campus community staying behind, employment opportunities are coming.

“The institution as a whole has had multiple career fairs, jobs fairs, and we have another set I think coming up next week,” said Quinn.

Other SUNY and private colleges are in the process of being teach-out partners as well. Students have until the end of Summer 1 classes before the College closes its doors for good on June 21.
