(KRON) — On Friday, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins secured three convictions of a man after physically attacking and severely injuring his former partner.
According to testimony, on January 10, Otis Mason, 59, attacked his former partner, a 73-year-old victim, inside the house they both resided in when they were still partners.
The victim testified that Mason came into the home “like a madman” while questioning her about being intimate with another man.
When the victim replied to Mason, saying, “What are you talking about?” Mason punched the victim in the nose while “simultaneously shoving a finger up her nose, causing her nose to bleed profusely,” testimony said.
After punching the victim in the nose, Mason then punched his former partner on the shoulder before chasing her outside the residence, testimony said. The victim said she was forced outside in the rain with no shoes on as she continued to face threats from Mason.
Mason finally stopped his attack when the victim informed him that she had called the police and fled the scene. The victim testified that during the ordeal, she believed Mason “would kill her and was in fear for her life.”
“Intimate partner violence is a serious public safety concern as victims are placed in a vulnerable position due to the position of trust within the relationship,” said Assistant District Attorney Ashley Lee. “The jury’s verdict makes it clear that victims of domestic violence will be heard, seen, and protected in the city of San Francisco.”
Mason was sentenced on April 4 to a three-year probation term for domestic violence, battery, and elder abuse. Jenkins’ office said he received credit for the 82 days he served in custody.
