Snow brings joy to many in rural East County

PINE VALLEY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Many people saw April snow on Friday in parts of San Diego County.
Raul Figueroa headed north with family and friends from the South Bay.
“We’re going to Mt. Laguna, we saw it falling, we have to see it right now, we have to play with it,” Figueroa said.
Many had the same idea going up Sunrise Highway to Mt. Laguna as it snowed off and on throughout the day.
With the combination of snow and wind, at times, it was near white-out conditions in some spots. Drivers going to mountain communities were urged to take extra caution and have chains ready.
Further up the mountain, the storm did not disappoint. East County resident Kyle McLaughlin packed the family in the truck for a little adventure.
And while the boys goofed around, mom was comfy staying in the truck
“I’m from New York, good with the snow, came to California for no snow,” she said.
But for Daniel Ortiz, he says this is a day he’ll never forget.
“This is my first time looking at snow like this, my first time, I’m from Puerto Rico living here two years, never seen that before, it’s awesome, I’m cold,” Ortiz said.
As far as any road incidents, California Highway Patrol reported a driver crashed into a tree early this morning.
But FOX 5/KUSI have not heard of any other serious problems, just be careful if you plan to come this way, roads are slick.
