Most of the D.C. region is under a severe thunderstorm watch as some strong storms are already popping up. Here’s what you need to know.
As of 2:30 p.m., a storm was rolling through parts of Montgomery County. The National Weather Service said the thunderstorm was located over Poolesville, Maryland, moving east at 35 mph. Winds could gust at 60 mph and there could be quarter-size hail.
Areas that could see storm activity include Germantown, Rockville, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Wheaton and Silver Spring. The warning is until 2:45 p.m. Monday, 7News First Alert Meteorologist Steven Rudin said.
Scattered showers will remain Monday afternoon through the evening, especially south and east of D.C., Rudin said, before partially clearing.

The severe thunderstorm watch is expected to expire at 10 p.m.
