Tata Motors, in order to keep its micro-SUV Punch as the segment leader, will soon offer it with a new upgrade. It has been reported that the company, in the coming period, will start offering all Punch variants with a digital instrument gauge cluster. Reportedly, Tata Motors is planning this move as its newest and most formidable rival, the Hyundai Exter, is offering the same across all of its variants.
All Punch variants to come with digital instrument cluster
According to Rushlane, sources from Tata dealerships have reported that the lower variants of the Punch micro-SUV will come equipped with a 4-inch digital instrument gauge cluster. This is the same instrument cluster that we have already seen on the lower variants of the Tata Nexon and the top-spec variants of the Tiago and Tigor. This cluster provides all the important vehicle information, including speed, fuel gauge, trip details, and others. The only thing it does not have is a tachometer. At the moment it has not been reported if the prices will be hiked or not however most likely there will be a small bump for this extra feature.
As mentioned, this smaller 4-inch screen will be offered across all the variants except for the top-of-the-line Creative variant of the Tata Punch. The Creative variant, on the other hand, will come equipped with the same semi-digital instrument gauge cluster that was first seen on the pre-facelift Harrier and Safari models. This screen comes with a lot of features, including speed and torque meters, trip meters, odometer, nighttime illumination control, service reminder, gear recommendation, and others.
2023 Tata Punch
Currently, the Tata Punch is offered in India in four main variants, namely the Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. There are a ton of further trims in between these main variants. As for pricing, the Tata Punch starts with a price tag of Rs 5.99 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 10.10 lakh.
In terms of the powertrain, the Punch is offered with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. This motor generates a maximum power of 84 BHP and 113 Nm. As for the transmission duties, they are handled by a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. In addition, the company recently also launched the Punch iCNG variant. This CNG variant comes equipped with twin-cylinder technology and offers 76 bhp and 97 Nm of torque.
Tata Punch EV in the pipeline
According to reports, Tata Motors is planning to launch the all-new Punch EV in the first quarter of next year. In the last few months, test mules of this EV SUV have been spotted on multiple occasions. These test mules have revealed that the new Punch EV will boast a new design compared to the outgoing ICE model. It will feature a brand new set of LED headlights with connected DRLs and new connected LED taillights as well.
It has also been noted that the interior of the forthcoming Punch EV will also get a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and minor changes to the dashboard. As for the powertrain, most likely, the upcoming Tata Punch EV will come equipped with the same EV drivetrain as the Tata Tiago EV. It could get the same 24 kWh battery pack that delivers an MIDC-certified range of 315 km. It might also get the smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack, which offers an MIDC-certified range of 250 km. As for the price, the company could be launching the Punch EV in the price range of Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 12.5 lakh.
