[ad_1]
Ending the dominance of Maruti Suzuki Alto, Tata Punch has taken over as the best-selling car in India. In the month of March 2024, the sales for Punch were a staggering 17,547 units. The Alto, on the other hand, came in at 17th place out of the 25 top-selling cars in India. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 9,332 units of Alto in India in March 2024. This signifies that Indian car buyers are now not merely going for the cheapest car on offer. Rather, they are choosing what is offering them great value. Notably, the 2nd and 3rd best selling cars in March were Maruti Suzukis; the WagonR clocked 17,845 units while the Dzire managed 17,578 units.
Tata Punch: March Sales
The Tata Punch in March of this year managed to post a total sales volume of 17,547 units. In the same month last year, it had a sales volume of 10,894 units. The overall year-on-year growth was an impressive 61 percent.
On a month-on-month basis, the Tata Punch suffered a dip of 5 percent. Back in February, the sales for the Punch were reported to be 18,438 units. Prior to that, in January when the Punch EV was launched in India, the sales were reported to be 17,978 units.
It has to be noted that these sales figures of the Punch combine all drivetrains. Currently, Tata offers the Punch with three drivetrain options, including petrol, CNG, and electric.
Maruti Alto: Sales
Maruti Suzuki Alto, on the other hand, has seen just a growth of 2 percent on a year-on-year basis. This year in March, its sales were 9,332 units. Meanwhile, at the same time last year, they were 9,139 units. On a month-on-month basis, its sales were down by 20 percent. Last month, Alto sales were reported to be 11,723 units.
How has Tata Punch overtaken Maruti Suzuki Alto?
Ever since the launch of the Punch, Tata Motors has been enjoying its success. Tata Punch has resonated well with Indian buyers who want an SUV at the price of a hatchback. However, apart from this, there are multiple reasons behind its success as well. According to us, those reasons are as follows.
Sturdy Build
The biggest highlight of the Punch is its robust build quality. The Punch in the GNCAP tests scored 16.45 out of 17 in the adult safety rating. For child safety, the Punch scored 40.89 out of 49. It was then rewarded with a perfect five-star safety rating.
Lots of drivetrain options
Another one of the contributing factors to its success is its diverse drivetrain offerings. The company offers the Punch with petrol, CNG, and electric drivetrains. The Punch petrol variant gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. This same engine also gets a CNG kit as well.
The petrol model makes 86 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the CNG makes 72 bhp and 103 Nm of torque. The Punch EV comes with two battery pack options – 25 kWh and 35 kWh. They offer a range of 315 km and 421 km respectively.
Imposing looks
What has resonated very well with the Indian car buyers is the looks that the Punch offers. This micro-SUV looks very macho and aggressive. It offers an imposing road presence compared to hatchbacks. Also, the most recently launched Punch EV with the new front fascia looks much better than its competition.
Ground clearance and affordable pricing
The Punch, being a micro-SUV, offers very good ground clearance. It offers a ground clearance of 187mm, which is a lot better when compared to vehicles (hatchbacks) in its price bracket.
Talking about the pricing, the Punch is an affordable vehicle. It starts at Rs 6 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 10.20 lakh for the ICE model. Meanwhile, the Punch EV starts at 10.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.49 lakh.
Feature-rich
Apart from being a very sturdy and good-looking vehicle, the Punch also comes loaded with features. The ICE models get a 7-inch touchscreen display with connected car technology, a 7-inch semi-digital instrument panel, automatic AC, and cruise control.
Meanwhile, the Punch EV comes with features such as a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, touch-based HVAC controls, twin 10.25-inch screens, ventilated seats, and a multifunction steering wheel.
