The union representing 3,600 workers at Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills and Extra Foods in Manitoba says a tentative contract agreement has been reached with supermarket chain Loblaw.

Jeff Traeger, UFCW 832 president and lead negotiator, said in a news release the deal was reached early Thursday. The current contract expires at the end of Friday.

Traeger wouldn’t discuss specifics of the deal but said it achieves gains for all workers and recognizes the efforts union members made to keep stores going during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Negotiations have been happening since June and the workers voted in favour of a strike mandate earlier this month.

Traeger said the union is working on getting the details of the tentative agreement to members for review.

Voting on the agreement will take place from Oct. 19-22.
