ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A young child was shot earlier today at an Albany apartment complex and details are limited at this time. Albany police say they were called out to Albany medical center around 4 o’clock, Tuesday. There they say they found a three-year-old boy who had been shot. Police tell me the boy is alert and conscious at this time.
A spokesperson with Albany police says the child was shot inside a home at the Capital Woods apartments in the area of Manning Boulevard and Lark Drive. “It’s getting bad over here. It’s time to move,” said one resident.
Police say the boy was with family when the firearm discharged and shot the child in the shoulder. Police could be seen inside the taped off apartment and flashes from the officer’s camera could be seen as investigators scoured the house for clues. “I just want to know how there was a gun by the kid and how do you accidentally shoot a kid,” said Ritzie.
A next door neighbor says the boy and his grandmother had just moved in about 5 months ago. “They’re usually quiet. The lady always has the baby at the park. The baby’s always crying to go to the park. Other than that it’s a happy baby,” said a next-door neighbor who did not want to go on camera.
Both of the women that spoke to NEWS10 say they have had enough and are fed up living in this community.
“I’ve been asking my case managers to help me get out of this area and into a stable housing somewhere and a decent neighborhood but for now I guess I’m stuck here,” said the neighbor.
Albany police tell NEWS10 that this is an active investigation, and more details are to follow. we will bring you the very latest both on-air and online.
