This Wednesday the news broke that Sean CaseyNew York Yankees hitting coach, publicly announced that will not return to the team for the 2024 MLB season, so important names are already emerging and could take over the offensive.
In the podcast he authored, The Mayor’s Office, Casey said that he made the decision to resign from his position in the Yankees to share more with his daughters who reside in Pittsburgh, but a few hours after the announcement the X account (formerly Twitter) specialized in Yankee transfers, @PeteSimonetti, placed two former Mules champions in the position.
These are Tino Martínez and Nick Swisherwho would be the candidates to take the role of hitting coach especially when the Yankees were indebted for their offensive performance in 2023.
Martínez was part of the dynasty that the Yankees formed in the late 90’s that were crowned champions in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000 while Swisher also added a ring with the Bronx team in 2009.
Either Martinez or Swisher would both be tasked with improving the collective hitting of the team that Casey had taken over for Dillon Lawson during the All-Star Game break.
In 71 meetings Casey barely managed to improve 10 points in the collective average which went from .221 to .231, also experiencing an improvement in the OPS, which rose from .688 to .711.
We will have to wait to find out who will finally try to direct the batting of one of the most expensive payrolls in baseball, which the previous year was in debt by finishing in fourth position in the East Division in the American League.
