Alan Cumming joined Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb on Today With Hoda & Jenna to discuss his job as host of The Traitors, a show that Bush Hager has clearly never seen before.
She began the interview by telling Cumming about what a phenomenon the show is, especially with her own co-workers at NBC.
“People are obsessed with it! In our office, everybody has been talking about it,” Bush Hager said.
When they discussed who was on the show, Cumming explained, “There are some randoms,” including “Deontay [Wilder] the boxer and John Bercow, who’s the former Speaker of the House of Commons at Westminster. It’s so crazy.” Bush Hager then mentioned, “There’s also all this drama with Larissa Pippen –”
“Larsa,” Kotb interrupted, correctly naming Real Housewives of Miami star Larsa Pippen. She added, “She’s dating Michael Jordan‘s son.”
“They were both on the show,” Cumming explained, as Bush Hager asked, “And they had gotten in a fight?”
Cumming replied, “Well, he got murdered,” referencing how Marcus Jordan had been eliminated from the show by the titular Traitors.
A clearly shocked Bush Hager exclaimed, “He died?!” and Cumming had to explain, “Well, they don’t really die.. it’s just ‘murdered,’” using air quotes.
Bush Hager replied, “Oh.” I really need her to watch this show, because dang, she’s missing out.
“On the show someone gets murdered every night, and someone gets banished…did she get murdered and he got banished? I can’t remember. Or they both got murdered? Ah, who cares,” Cumming joked. “Anyway, they’re not on the show anymore. But they were a couple… I was sort of watching them when we did the missions, to see if they were trying to sneak away. There was a lot of fondling.”
When questioned by the hosts what he meant, he added, “Fondling, like heavy petting we used to call it.”
Cumming even claimed that the rumors are true and the couple is no longer together, although the pair is reportedly trying to “work things out,” according to Pippen herself.
“They’ve split up in real life, apparently… conveniently, the reunion is coming,” he said, adding that Andy Cohen will be hosting that special, which will air after the second season concludes.
Bush Hager then pivoted to talking about Cabaret, a Cumming project that she has seen, before the interview ended.
New episodes of The Traitors air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Peacock — that’s info just for you, Jenna.
