Witches, dinosaurs and extra cute monsters waddled around London’s downtown library trick-or-treating and blowing bubbles with the fairy-dressed librarians.

It was the annual family Halloween costume party at the London Public Library’s central branch Tuesday morning that made even the most avid reader pause and look up.

Madoka Ishikawa came to the party with her one-year old, Sakho, who was dressed as a ladybug. It will be their first time trick-or-treating tonight since immigrating from Japan.

“Japan [doesn’t have] the big event [for] Halloween, just costumes, so it’s the first time for me and for him,” said Ishikawa.

The kids were able to decorate their own trick-or-treating bag, go on a scavenger hunt, walk through a “toddler haunted house” or blow bubbles in the program room.

“It takes a lot of time because each year we do different crafts. Three of the staff members take it on spear-headed to organize all the different crafts we’re doing and games as well,” said Ellie Constursi, a supervisor at the children’s library.
