Toyota taking sporty electric coupe, new SUV to Tokyo show

Toyota has revealed images of two new concepts it plans to debut at the Tokyo motor show later this month: the FT-Se coupe and the FT-3e SUV.
The sporty FT-Se coupe is a high-performance concept that appears to closely resemble the GR Sport EV concept revealed in December 2021.
Toyota claims the FT-Se shares major components with the FT-3e, while offering greater handling stability and superior aerodynamic performance.
According to the brand the exterior has wide and low proportions with a “cutting-edge silhouette” which helps to reduce aerodynamic drag.
Inside, the dashboard features “intuitive controls and a more immersive driving experience”. It also features a low instrument panel aimed at increasing visibility for the driver, and kneepads to “protect the body from G-forces during driving”.
Toyota says it “set out to create a car that continues to grow with the driver through software updates”.
The brand says the SUV-like FT-3e will feature “new driving experiences and personalised services powered by innovative technologies”.
The FT-3e has bold, bulging fenders front and rear and plenty of sharp creases.
Down back, it has a rear full-width light bar and a rakish, coupe-like rear windscreen.
Toyota says the interior offers digital displays “from the lower side body to the upper door” that provide information like the battery charge, onboard temperature and interior air quality as the driver approaches the car.
At this stage, it’s unclear if the concepts preview production vehicles.
The event, officially known as the Japan Mobility Show, will run from Thursday, October 26 until Sunday, November 5.
