UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers: Matchweek Ten Roundup

Roundup of the final matchweek of UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying as the qualifiers drew to a close.

With several teams having already qualified for the main tournament next summer, this round of fixtures saw the final qualification spots confirmed, although England and Scotland had already qualified whilst Wales’ fate hung in the balance and Northern Ireland had been eliminated.

Now, here is a roundup of all the action in the final matchweek of UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying.

 

Group A

Ferran Torres’ second half goal plus Luka Lochoshvili’s own-goal saw Spain beat Georgia to top Group A with a 3-1 home win, despite Robin Le Norman’s opening goal having been cancelled out by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s equaliser.

John McGinn scored a 13th minute penalty and provided an assist as second-placed Scotland battled to a 3-3 draw at home to Norway, with Jørgen Strand Larsen having netted and created an assist for the visitors in a see-saw contest.

 

Group B

Youssouf Fofana’s 74th minute equaliser saw Group B winners, France snatch a 2-2 draw away to Greece after Fotis Ioanndis had put the Greeks in front, following Anastasios Bakasetas’ equaliser to cancel out Randal Kolo Muani’s goal

Calvin Stengs scored a hat-trick as second-placed Netherlands wrapped up their qualification for the main tournament with a 6-0 away win over Gibraltar, during which Mats Wieffer, Teun Koopmeiners and Cody Gakpo also found the net.

 

Group C

Jani Atanasov’s 58th minute own-goal saw already qualified England snatch a 1-1 draw away to North Macedonia, who had led through Enis Bardhi’s rebound strike from a saved penalty in the 41st minute.

Italy secured the final qualification spot in Group D after they finished second following a goalless draw away to Ukraine on neutral territory in Leverkusen, Germany.

 

Group D

Ante Budimir’s 43rd minute goal saw Croatia beat Armenia in Zagreb to snatch the second qualification spot.

Wales consequently missed out on automatic qualification for a third consecutive Euros tournament aafter they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Turkey, having led through Neco Williams’ seventh minute strike until Yusuf Yazici equalised with a 70th minute penalty.

 

Group E

Albania drew 0-0 at home to Faroe Islands to wrap up qualification and win Group E, as they prepare for only their second appearance in the main tournament.

Czech Republic finished second on head-to-head points after beating Moldova 3-0 in Olomouc, with David Doudera, Tomas Chory and Tomas Soucek on the scoresheet.

 

Group F

Romelu Lukaku netted four first-half goals before Leandro Trossard’s 90th minute strike wrapped up a 5-0 win for Belgium at home to Azerbaijan, which saw the hosts win Group F.

Goals from Viktor Claesson and Emil Forsberg saw Sweden beat Estonia 2-0 in a dead rubber clash in Solna.

 

Group G

Dominik Szoboszlai’s brace and Adam Nagy’s injury-time strike saw Hungary fight back to beat Montenegro 3-1 in Budapest to top Group G, after Slobodan Rubezic had put the visitors ahead in the 36th minute.

Srdan Babic’s 82nd minute goal saw Serbia snatch a 2-2 draw at home to Bulgaria who had taken a 69th minute lead through Kiril Despodov, after Georgi Rusev cancelled out Milos Veljkovic’s opening goal.

 

Group H

Denmark topped Group H by virtue of head-to-head points despite suffering a 2-0 loss at Northern Ireland, courtesy of second half goals from Isaac Price and Dion Charles.

Benjamin Verbic’s 86th minute winner saw Slovenia secure second and qualification with a 2-1 win at home to Kazakhstan, after Benjamin Sesko’s goal had been cancelled out by Ramazan Orazov.

Pyry Soiri’s brace saw Finland win 2-1 away to San Marino which secured them a third-placed finish.

 

Group I

Denis Alibec struck a 50th minute winner as Romania beat Switzerland 1-0 to top Group A as both teams qualified automatically for the tournament.

Joan Cervos’ own-goal and Gadi Kinda’s goal saw Israel beat Andorra 2-0 in Andorra la Vella to finish their qualifying campaign on a high, ahead of their involvement in the qualification play-offs in March.

Dmitri Antilevski netted a 50th minute winner as Belarus scraped a 1-0 away in Kosovo.

 

Group J

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Ricardo Horta saw Portugal beat Iceland 2-0 in Lisbon to top Group J unbeaten.

Second-half goals from Robert Bozenik and Lubomir Satka saw second-placed Slovenia win 2-1 away to Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Gerson Rodrigues struck a 69th minute winner as Luxembourg scraped past Liechtenstein in Vaduz.

 

Who is Involved in Qualifying Play-Offs?

12 teams will be involved in the Qualifying Play-Offs based on UEFA Nations Rankings across League A-D, with the four qualified teams from Group C automatically assigned to Path C – which contains Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan and Luxembourg.

League B saw five teams qualify for this stage so the two League B group winners were automatically allocated to Path B – Israel plus Bosnia & Herzegovina, whilst Finland, Ukraine and Iceland face a draw with one team allocated to Path A and the other two staying in Path B.

Poland and Wales were the only teams from League A to qualify for this stage so were put in Path A alongside League D winner, Estonia.
