UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying: Group B – Netherlands vs Republic of Ireland
[ad_1]
Netherlands host Republic of Ireland at Johan Cruyff Arena in Group B of UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying.
With Greece not in action in this round of fixtures, second-placed Netherlands can put qualification in their own hands with a win or draw.
Ireland meanwhile are playing their final match in this week where they will finish fourth regardless of their result here.
Team News
Thijs Dallinga and Jorrel Hato are in contention for their senior Netherlands debuts.
Jeremie Frimpong, Nathan Ake, Brian Brobbey, and Steven Bergwijn are all ruled out with unspecified injuries.
Ireland will have James McClean available after he joined up with the squad early after initially having been called up for next week’s friendly against New Zealand.
Festy Ebosele (unspecified) and Will Smallbone (foot/thigh) have withdrawn from the squad.
When is Kick-Off?
Netherlands host Republic of Ireland at Johan Cruyff Arena in a 8:45pm CET (7:45pm UK Time) kick-off on Saturday 18 November, live on ViaPlay Sport 1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Netherlands have won all four previous UEFA Euro Qualifying meetings against Republic of Ireland (W4), including their UEFA Euro 1996 Qualifying Play-Off in December 1995.
- Ireland lost their only previous UEFA Euro Qualifying trip to Netherlands by 2-1 result in September 1982.
- Both teams have scored in each of their three previous UEFA Euro Qualifying clashes contested within the Group Phrase, with two of those three meetings having ended in a 2-1 result.
- Netherlands’ seven goals at home in this group have been scored by six different players, with Nathan Ake the only Dutchman to score twice on home soil during a 3-0 win over Gibraltar.
- All five of Ireland’s away goals in this group have been scored by different players – Nathan Collins, Evan Ferguson, Mikey Johnston, Matt Doherty and Callum Robinson.
Prediction
Although this year hasn’t exactly been consistent for the Dutch, they’ve won three of their last four games including a comeback win over Ireland in Dublin, but they will be favourites here if find their best quality because they can put two hands on qualification with a win here.
Ireland meanwhile have little to play for other than pride and a chance to finish their campaign on a high, especially after ruthlessly dispatching Gibraltar last month but they will be underdogs in Amsterdam although they can feel confident after pushing the Dutch at home in September.
This game though is must win for Netherlands because a draw or defeat will leave them under pressure heading into their final group clash away to Gibraltar, with a need to match or better Greece’s result so I do expect them to have the edge but Ireland should push them hard.
Prediction: Netherlands 2-1 ROI
