LOUISVILLE, Ky. — No. 1 Pacifica headlines an unchanged first eight in the 2024 USA TODAY Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 for a second week.
The (10-0) Mariners stayed perfect for the season with a 4-1 victory over Esperanza last Friday in their only action. Reigning California Division 1 Southern Section champion Pacifica returns to the field tomorrow for a matchup against Huntington Beach.
Meanwhile, the next seven teams in the rankings kept pace. No. 2 Katy (21-1-1) has been impressive, rolling past Cinco Ranch 16-0 on Saturday and outscoring their opponents by a massive 200-9 advantage this season.
Third-ranked Jackson (2-0) got its season going with a pair of lopsided wins, while No. 4 Northwest Rankin (11-0) and No. 5 North DeSoto (18-0) also remained undefeated. Sixth-ranked Marist and No. 7 Austintown-Fitch open their 2024 campaigns Friday and next Saturday, respectively, while eight-ranked Basha (11-1) won two more games this past week.
Norco (9-2) and Desert Mountain (8-2) switched the final two places in the top 10 following the Wolves’ 7-2 loss to Willow Canyon.
Defending Louisiana state Class 3A titlist Calvary Baptist (16-1) has things rolling again and enters the rankings this week at No. 11. The Cavaliers, who were the state Class IV champion in both 2021 and 2022, have outpaced their competition by nearly eight runs per contest, 160-29, over their first 17 games.
Elsewhere, Benton (4-1) dropped from 18th to No. 22 after a 6-3 loss to Bryant, while St. Amant (12-6) fell out of the Super 25 entirely after losing three of its last four games.
State rankings submitted by the 2024 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the USA TODAY Sports/NFCA High School Super 25. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
