With children on holiday break and far-traveled family members back home, the opportunities for family togetherness are exponential. This is when families can get pictures with Santa, decorate together, make gingerbread houses and the like.
But all of that time together can quickly become draining. So take a step back from the festivities by watching a classic holiday movie — together or separately.
But what is Washington state’s favorite holiday movie? A new study shows the movie searched the most in each state this holiday season. See how your favorite ranked.
Washington state’s favorite Christmas movie
This year’s most-searched Christmas movie across the country was “Elf,” just in time for its 20th anniversary. It was the number one search in seven states — but not in Washington.
A study by CenturyLink took lists of classic Christmas movies and examined the search volume of each movie by state over the last 12 months. This led to a list of 17 top-searched Christmas movies.
Three movies tied for second place, claiming the top spot in five different states: “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Four Christmases” and “Love Actually.”
The nation’s fourth most-searched movie, and Washington’s favorite, is the most action-packed movie of the 17: “Die Hard.”
Because multiple television and movie review sites, such as IMDb and RottenTomatoes, list the first action flick about John McClane as a Christmas movie, searches for “Die Hard” were considered in the study. This turned out to be worthwhile, as it was the top movie in Washington, as well as in Montana, Kansas and Alaska.
