RB Leipzig defender David Raum has admitted he was sorry to see Timo Werner join Tottenham on loan this month and believes he will be “a big loss”.
That full-back has been speaking to Sport 1 about the situation at the German club and Werner’s departure earlier this month.
Werner elected to leave the German side and return to the Premier League with Tottenham after growing frustrated with a lack of playing time this season.
He had found himself down the pecking order this year, managing just eight appearances in the Bundesliga and featuring in 14% of the available minutes and featuring even less in the Champions League.
Despite his struggles in England, he has shown no hesitation to return with Tottenham, hoping to benefit from some of that Ange Postecoglou magic and get back on track.
The notion has been that he won’t be missed at Leipzig, but Raum appears to be of a completely different mindset.
“He hasn’t had an easy season. He also had his injuries last season, which of course also comes into play,” he said.
“But he still helped us again and again. He was there for everyone, looked after everyone and put everyone in a good mood. That’s why it’s a big loss for the cabin.
“If that’s what it took for him to get back to the Premier League, then I wish him the best.”
