BOXXER target January 13 for Buatsi vs. Azeez – but with one major problem | Boxing News

BOXXER have held January 13 at the O2 for the rearranged clash between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez – but there is a major problem.
Boxing News understands that is the date earmarked for the fight, which was pulled at the last minute when Azeez suffered a last-gasp back injury.
But the British, Commonwealth and European champion has now been medically cleared to box in the new year and is close to reigniting his training camp.
January 13 is the working date for the fight, however that means a clash with another major light-heavyweight fight which will have ramifications for Azeez.
Also on that night, Callum Smith is set to challenge Artur Beterbiev for his trio of world championship belts at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City.
And, as Azeez and Smith are both trained by Buddy McGirt, Boxxer may be forced to find an even later date for the Buatsi fight.
February 3 is understood to be an option with an announcement expected next week.
Also likely to land on that card is Adam Azim, should he claim the European title by beating Franck Petitjean in Wolverhampton next weekend.
If he wins and avoids injury, the light-welterweight must defend the belt against Enock Poulsen before the end of February or risk being stripped.
