Celtic secured a point at Ibrox in an Old Firm classic after their 3-3 draw against arch-rivals Rangers on Sunday afternoon (7 April).
Daizen Maeda bagged just 21 seconds in after his shot deflected off Gers captain James Tavernier before Matt O’Riley’s panenka penalty in the 34th minute gave the Hoops a strong lead.
However, Rangers clawed it back in the second half after Tavernier bagged a controversial spot-kick and Abdallah Sima’s deflected effort in the 86th minute.
Moments after the Gers’ equaliser, loanee Adam Idah scored what looked to be the winner, but an equalising screamer from Rabbi Matondo meant the spoils were shared at Ibrox.
Football Insider has analysed the Hoops players’ performances following the crucial encounter.
Joe Hart [6]
Was nowhere near as busy as Jack Butland in the opposition net, but Hart proved strong when called upon having made two saves and distributing eight accurate long balls. Tavernier’s controversial penalty was unstoppable but his positioning should be questioned for the Gers’ other strikes.
Greg Taylor [7]
Assured at the back throughout the 90 in the chaotic clash. He secured five clearances, three tackles and one interception and even secured six successful ground duels to keep the rivals quiet for long periods.
Liam Scales [6]
Looked a threat in attack and nearly bagged himself a goal in the first half, but struggled with Rangers’ second-half pressure. He lost possession 12 times and his passes from the back were often wayward, but did enough to keep the Gers at bay when he was involved.
Cameron Carter-Vickers [6]
Far from his best outing on a Hoops jersey, but was mostly dependable. On occassion, it looked like the high-pressing Rangers frontline exposed him, but with four clearances, one block, one interception and 84 per cent pass accuracy, the Gers could have secured a win without Carter-Vickers’ presence.
Alistair Johnston [8]
Made a number of crucial tackles and was the Hoops’ strongest defender across the 90. He was not at direct fault for any of the Gers’ three goals and managed an impressive six clearances, five tackles, two interceptions and five successful ground duels.
Reo Hatate [4]
Was hauled off the pitch after 65 minutes, which was no shock. With only 19 completed passes and 40 touches, his typically crucial influence was absent at Ibrox.
Tomoki Iwata [5]
Was an important part of Celtic’s midfield in the first half, but his influence was nullified by Rangers in the second 45. He only managed one successful dribble and failed to spring any counterattacks as the game went on. Average.
Matt O’Riley [9]
A stunning outing from the sought-after 23-year-old. His panenka penalty will live long on the memories of Celtic fans, and rightly so, but his 79 per cent pass accuracy and four key passes were instrumental for his side springing impactful counters. Outstanding.
Daizen Maeda [9]
He was quietened by Rangers’ more aggressive second half outing, but the Japan international was crucial for Celtic’s first-half dominance. His early opener was fortunate, but he was a constant nuisance to the Gers’ backline.
Kyogo Furuhashi [4]
Made a few key passes but did not offer enough going forward. Three shots across his time in the pitch was underwheming and he failed to get in the ball anough having managed just 22 touches and eight completed passes. Passanger.
Nicolas Kuhn [3]
His good recent form went out of the window at Ibrox. Struggled to string together any good passes with his teammates having made just eight passes. He lacked any noticable attacking threat and only managed one shot, which was blocked. Forgettable.
