Gary Neville makes feelings clear after supercomputer predicts title winner – Footymercato.com

Gary Neville quipped that things had “gone from bad to worse” after he was told Liverpool are now favourites to win the Premier League title ahead of Manchester City.

City are bidding to win their first consecutive title but are now three points behind the Reds after Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal. The Gunners are also a point ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men with just nine league fixtures remaining.

Liverpool recovered from an early setback to record a 2-1 victory against Brighton prior to City and Arsenal’s stalemate – and Neville, formerly of Manchester United, had a light-hearted response when he learned that the Red Devils’ arch-rivals were now favourites to win the league according to a Supercomputer.

“It’s gone from bad to worse!,” said the former United right-back. His former Old Trafford team-mate, Roy Keane, offered up his own response and admitted that he now has Liverpool down as the most likely team to claim the domestic crown.

Keane added: “Liverpool, as of today’s results I’d have them favourites, then I’d have Arsenal second favourites. With their goal difference. City have got injuries, Champions League coming up. Same for Arsenal, so I think Liverpool. I see them as favourites.”

Theo Walcott, however, took a different view and put forward a case for Arsenal ending their 20-year title drought. He argued: “I look at Arsenal now, they’re getting their fitness back, the squad seems to be back together, in good spirits as well. Man City are losing players and Liverpool might be playing with a lot of freedom, but Arsenal are in a good spot.

“The Champions League is going to be very crucial, in terms of what sort of team he’s going to put out and how focused they will be. City have got a better run-in if you look at the fixtures, but if you end up beating City this year you deserve to win this league. They can’t afford to lose to lesser teams.”

Pep Guardiola also implied that the advantage in the title race now lies with Liverpool when he was asked if he felt that. He said: “Yes. First is always favourite, second is Arsenal and we’re third. It’s not in our hands. Aston Villa is the next game, so try to win it. It’s simple.

“We take the point. We tried. We didn’t create much, they didn’t create much. They defended very compactly and had a lot of quality and physicality. As a team, we’re still there.

“We could have more in some aspects, but I’m satisfied. I told the team ‘don’t be sad’. You have to give credit to Arsenal for the things they do. Maybe we miss a little it in the final third but it is not easy.

The last game at the Emirates was quite similar. We tried to create a little more but it is not easy. They are fantastic at what they do and that is why they were top of the league, now it is Liverpool. They played well all of last season and this season.
