Paulo Fonseca will be in demand this summer. The Portuguese manager’s contract at Lille OSC expires at the end of the season, and whilst Les Dogues have hope of retaining Fonseca, Ligue 1 rivals Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais are lurking, according to L’Équipe.
No one knows what the future holds, not even himself, as he has said both publically and privately in recent weeks. A meeting with LOSC president Olivier Létang will be held between now and the end of the season, and with Fonseca happy at Lille and with the trajectory of the club, which this season is on course for a UEFA Champions League qualification, there is hope of retaining their manager.
John Textor a fan of Fonseca
Whilst Fonseca has never hidden his desire to manage a club with more considerable financial means, there are arguments to remain at Lille beyond the end of his current deal. However, there are other interested parties. Marseille will part ways with interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset in the summer, and having shown an interest in Fonseca last summer, before ultimately opting for Marcelino, another swoop could be made. L’Équipe understands that Fonseca is a priority target for Les Phocéens.
Lyon could also be in the market for a manager. Having reversed the trend and led the club to safety, Pierre Sage was given the job until the end of the season, but his future beyond the summer is uncertain. John Textor is a fan of Fonseca and could make a move.
