Nottingham Forest points deduction warning issued – ‘there will be uproar’ – Footymercato.com

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted there will be “uproar” if a final decision on a points deduction for Nottingham Forest isn’t made before the end of the season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – warned that uncertainty over Forest’s league position would mean “complete turmoil” for the league’s calendar.
Nottingham Forest, alongside Everton, were charged with a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules in January after making a loss of more than the permitted £61million across the last three seasons.
It is believed the Midlands club will learn their punishment in April – meaning any potential appeal will have to be heard quickly if the decision is to be finalised before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are already in a relegation battle and sit 16th in the Premier League – just two points above the drop zone.
The City Ground club were only promoted to the top flight in 2022 and have spent lavishly since their return.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track Podcast: “I think there has to be a final decision made before the end of the season.
“To try and salvage any respect at all, they’ve got to do that.
“If the decision comes after the season finishes, I think there will be uproar.
“The actual mechanics of the Premier League means that the new clubs are welcomed in June – you wouldn’t be able to do that if you didn’t know who was up and who was down.
“It would put the whole calendar into complete turmoil.
“This is a mess of their own making for the Premier League.
“Richard Masters and Alison Brittain have got to take all the blame for this – and I’ll keep saying that as long as I can.”
