Ten Hag issues Rashford injury update after star forced off against Liverpool – Footymercato.com

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag doesn’t expect Marcus Rashford to be missing for too long, despite the forward limping out of Sunday’s draw with Liverpool.

Rashford was recalled to the starting line-up after coming off the bench against Chelsea in midweek. He only managed a little over an hour against Liverpool, though, before making way for Antony.

United have lost a number of senior stars to injury this season, with defenders Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans among those missing after picking up issues at Stamford Bridge. With big games in the league and FA Cup coming up, Ten Hag won’t want to be without another first-teamer for too long.

Ten Hag’s team are up against Bournemouth in their next league game on April 13, with an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City the following weekend. United sit sixth in the Premier League table with seven games to go, though Champions League qualification may be out of reach.

“I’m not sure, but I don’t think it will be long term,” Ten Hag told MUTV when asked about Rashford’s injury. The manager had earlier confirmed injury kept midfielder Scott McTominay out of the matchday squad altogether.

Rashford made way with the scores level at 1-1. Luis Diaz put Liverpool in front midway through the first half, only for Bruno Fernandes to equalise from range early in the second period.

United’s second goal came just moments after the forward was substituted, as Kobbie Mainoo scored his first Old Trafford Premier League goal in style. They couldn’t hold on for victory, though, with Mohamed Salah putting away a penalty six minutes from time.

“Maybe you heard or you were in the dressing room but that’s what I told the players – mixed emotions,” Ten Hag said after the game. “On one side, very disappointed.

“Again, we give a certain win out of our hands by making, let’s say, not a very clever mistake there, like on Thursday and like last Saturday. And we lose seven points in one week, where we should have had nine points.

“That makes a huge difference. On the other side, I’m very proud of this team and we have young players coming in and then give this performance and can play on this level and it shows the future for Man United is very bright.”
