Two managers set for Liverpool interviews after major Alonso blow – Footymercato.com

Liverpool are expected to shortlist both Ruben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann as potential replacements for Jurgen Klopp, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that Amorim, the boss of Sporting Lison, and Nagelsmann, manager of the German national team, will join current first-choice Xabi Alonso on the Reds’ list of potential new bosses.

As revealed by Football Insider (5 March), Alonso currently prefers to remain in Germany and would pick a switch to Bayern Munich over move to Merseyside.

Amorim, 39, has come on Liverpool’s radar on the back of Sporting’s impressive campaign as well as his outstanding development of the team in recent seasons.

They are currently one point clear at the top of the Portuguese top flight with a game in hand over second-place Benfica and in the last-16 of the Europa League.

Amorim is expected to be interviewed for the Liverpool job, while Nagelsmann is also likely to speak to the club.

Nagelsmann’s last club managerial role was at Bayern but he was sacked in March last year before assuming the coveted position as his country’s manager.

His contract expires after this summer’s European Championships, but one potential issue is that he would not be able to oversee pre-season training at any club job until July.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was also eyed up as a potential replacement, but sources have also told Football Insider (4 March) that he will reject any offers to leave this summer and has been deemed an unrealistic candidate by Liverpool.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has also been considered but does not rank as highly as Alonso, Nagelsmann or Amorim.
