Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they have found the vehicle involved in the death of a teenage boy from Norfolk County after a fatal hit and run last week.
Dominik Short-Empey, 14, was hit by a pickup truck last Wednesday while walking alongside Fairground Road in Cultus, a small enclave south of Tillsonburg. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Police said they seized the grey pickup truck involved in the hit and run and may have identified the driver.
Search efforts to find the suspect remain ongoing.
Norfolk County OPP said there is no threat to public safety and is asking anyone with any information that can help the investigation to contact them.
Short-Empey was described as having a “fearless, carefree nature” and “a heart of gold” in his obituary. He was also passionate about riding dirt bikes and enjoyed working on them with his father, Jeremy Empey.
The grade 10 student at Valley Heights Secondary School in Langton, Ont. was just over two weeks shy of his 15th birthday.
A private family gathering and viewing has already taken place and a visitation in Langton is scheduled on Tuesday for those who knew him.
A public funeral service for Short-Empey will be held on Wednesday.
