Volvo is continuing to tease the all-electric EM90 MPV before its launch on November 12 and has just previewed some of its safety features and the luxurious cabin. While the EM90 will be Volvo’s first entrant in the MOV space, it’s clearly eager to ensure it is a class leader.

On the safety front, Volvo says that the EM90 uses high-strength steel, including boron steel, in its construction to lessen the impact of crashes. One key element of the MPV’s construction is the double A-pillars that don’t only improve visibility but also add to the strength of the safety cage. Volvo doesn’t just want to keep occupants safe but also the precious battery pack that underpins the MPV.

As such, Volvo says it has implemented “state-of-the-art battery protection technologies” that include a steel and aluminum structure. Plenty of safety and advanced driver assistance systems have also been implemented, including high-definition cameras, surround view cameras, a millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic sensors.

Those interested in purchasing the EM90 will be pleased to know that Volvo has spent considerable time crafting a luxurious and comfortable cabin for them. Among the standard features will include an air purification system which ensures the air inside the cabin is cleaner than the air outside. This is possible thanks to pre-ionisation and a fiber-based filter that can remove up to 95% of all PM 2.5 particulates. The EM90 will also be installed with a 21-speaker audio system from Bowers & Wilkins with 2,460 watts and speakers built into the front headrests.

“The EM90 is designed to provide comfort and peace of mind in a Scandinavian style,” Volvo global head of new car programmes Erik Severinson said in a press release. “It’s a car that sets a new standard for modern luxury – a word that nowadays is often interchangeable with the expression ‘quality of life’. At Volvo Cars, we’re uniquely positioned to tap into this new mindset. We’re from Sweden after all, a place that believes quality of life is as important as being alive.”

The Volvo EM90 is based around the Zeekr 009 already on sale in China. Interestingly, China will be the first market that the EM90 is sold in with local pre-orders to start on November 12.
