VSP investigating fatal crash in Proctor

PROCTOR, Vt. (NEWS10) — Vermont State Police announced they are investigating a fatal car crash that happened in Proctor on Thursday morning. The crash took place around 5:18 a.m. on Vermont Route 3.

Emergency medical personnel responding to the crash informed troopers that the driver, later identified as John Cioffi, 77, of Proctor, was found dead at the scene. According to state police, the investigation determined that Cioffi was driving south on Vermont Route 3 in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when his vehicle left the roadway, traveling down an embankment.

Cioffi’s car reportedly struck multiple tree stumps near the embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
