UK weather maps show ‘east-west divide’ as 400-mile snow bomb set to hit Britain

Dramatic weather maps show an east-west divide as the UK will be hit by a 400-mile snow bomb later this week.

The weather maps from WXCharts show that Scotland and parts of western England and Wales will be hit by severe weather in early March.

This means that cities such as Edinburgh, Inverness, and Aberdeen will see snow, but places such as Cardiff, and Plymouth will either be dry or see heavy rain instead.

London, the south, and south east are unlikely to see snow but will experience low temperatures. While in seaside cities and towns – such as Brighton, Newhaven, and Chichester – temperatures will drop below zero.

Further west, the Cornish town of Falmouth will be slightly warmer with temperatures approaching a comparatively mild five degrees.

The further north people travel, the colder it will get as the Scottish Highlands sees temperatures plummet closer to minus 10.

On whether widespread snow could hit the UK after March 1, the Met Office said there was a very low likelihood of snow falling outside of the Scottish Highlands.

Spokesperson Graham Madge told Express.co.uk: “Aside from the Scottish mountains, there isn’t strong potential for any snow until the latter part of this week when a move to cooler conditions provides a stronger signal for snow over high ground and the risk of overnight frost in areas away from cloud.

As we enter March, temperatures are likely to be slightly below average, although any snowfall is likely to be largely restricted to northern hills.

He added: “Further into the month, there is an increased chance of high pressure which would, in turn, increase the likelihood of prolonged drier spells and slightly colder than average conditions.”

Met Office five-day weather forecast

This Evening and Tonight:

Winds continue to ease in the south this evening, giving a mostly dry night with clear spells. Widespread frost forming with mist and fog patches. Rain arriving in the far northwest and winds strengthening later.

Tuesday:

Any mist and fog patches soon clearing as rain and cloud sinks southeast through the day, though weaken as it goes. Sunny spells and blustery showers follow behind.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Dry to start on Wednesday with further rain arriving from the west, turning heavy at times through Thursday. Remaining cold and unsettled for Friday.
