A wedding DJ who urinated on a cancer patient in a vile Snapchat prank has been jailed for 14 weeks.
Leigh Brookfield, 40, filmed himself splashing prostate cancer victim Peter Barton with urine at a tennis club Christmas event.
His sentence means that he will miss the birth of the baby his partner is expecting.
Police launched an investigation after receiving complaints about the video which left Mr Barton in tears when it was posted online.
A court was shown Snapchat footage of Brookfield’s crude prank moments after Mr Barton had told him about his cancer diagnosis.
Brookfield said ‘Sorry to hear that’ before weeing up Mr Barton’s back and sharing a video of the sick stunt online.
He was due to be sentenced yesterday for common assault but Llanelli Magistrates Court heard that Brookfield had changed his lawyers before the hearing and could not find a replacement in time.
Leigh Brookfield, 40 from Llanelli, was standing next to Peter Barton, who has cancer, in the toilets of Llanelli tennis club when he filmed himself performing the vile stunt
Mr Barton was telling Brookfield of his prostate problems when the DJ turned to the older man to urinate on his back
Brookfield posted the video on Snapchat on Boxing Day in 2023. The DJ, who performs in bars and at weddings around Llanelli, posted an apology on Facebook before deleting his account
He was given 24 hours to find one after all of the solicitors in court refused to take him on as a client.
Prosecutor Lucy Mansfield told how the incident happened on Boxing Day at Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club in South Wales which has now banned him for life.
She said: ‘The defendant entered the toilets and has spoken to the complainant who explained that he had recently received a prostate cancer diagnosis.
‘Whilst this was happening the defendant proceeded to urinate on the complainant and the video was later posted online.
‘At the time the complainant did not realise he was being urinated on but has since.’
Kelly Rivers, prosecuting at a sentencing hearing today(wed), read a letter from Mr Barton who is receiving treatment for his prostate cancer.
It said: ‘When I saw the video, I actually cried. I could not believe that someone could do that to someone else.
‘It left me breathless and upset. It was extremely upsetting to know that people had seen the video and were recognising me because of it. His actions were completely disgusting.’Â
Ms Rivers said the victim was ‘gobsmacked’ because he was unaware of what happened until members of the squash club knocked on his door the next day.
Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club said it had banned Brookfield for life and described Mr Barton as a ‘valued member of our club’Â

Brookfield, of Llanelli, was jailed for 14 weeks and ordered to pay £500 compensation to Mr Barton after admitting common assault. The court heard he had previous offences for crimes committed while drunk.
Robert Thomas, defending, said: ‘He is extremely embarrassed, ashamed and very sorry for what he did. He’s appalled at himself and has asked me to apologise to the court today.
‘At the time he was working as a DJ in local clubs, that has gone for him now.
‘He accepts that for some time he’s had a drink problem and has used recreational drugs.
‘Since this incident he has totally abstained from both – this has been a wake-up call for him.
Mr Thomas said Brookfield was ‘terrified’ of prison – his partner is due to give birth next month and he is the main carer for his 14-year-old daughter.
District Judge Mark Layton told him: ‘On Boxing Day, you were working as a DJ when you went to the toilet and a gentleman engaged you in polite conversation.
‘He said he was suffering from prostate cancer. Most people would have replied with kind words of sympathy.
‘But your response was to urinate up the back of his clothing which you filmed and uploaded to your Snapchat account for others to see.Â

In a previous court hearing on December 29 2023, prosecutor Lucy Mansfield said Mr Barton learned only later that he had been urinated on
“The victim was seemingly unaware of your actions untikl the video was shared online.
“Your actions constitute an assault on a vulnerable victim who you were clearly mocking while in drink.”
Brookfield showed no emotion as he was led to the cells but his blonde partner wept in the public gallery.
The DJ, who performs in bars and at weddings around Llanelli, West Wales, admitted it wasn’t the first time he’s deliberately urinated on someone while drunk.
Before deleting his Facebook account he posted: ‘I’m apologising to you all regarding my actions this evening. I’m deeply sorry for those who I have offended and if I could take it all back I would.
‘It’s just something me and the boys do when we are drunk and until watching the video back I didn’t realise that the nice gentleman next to me was going through health problems.’
In a statement, Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club said it had visited Mr Barton following the incident and he was ‘understandably upset’.
Posting on its official Facebook, the venue said: ‘It has been brought to our attention of a video placed on Snapchat and then subsequently posted on Facebook of an incident which took place in the toilets of our club.
‘We were unaware of any such incident happening to the valued member of the club and on seeing the video the gentleman was visited early on December 28 by the club Chairperson and a senior committee member to see how he was.
Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club called Broockfield’s act ‘despicable’ and insisted he had no connection to their society

The DJ, who performs in bars and at weddings around Llanelli, West Wales, admitted it wasn’t the first time he’s deliberately urinated on someone while drunk
‘He was understandably upset about this incident as he has recently had treatment for cancer.
‘We are a family friendly club and are devastated that our name has been bought into this despicable act by a person who has no association with the club and through no fault of our own.
‘Leigh Brookfield has been banned from the club for life for his vile actions.’
At least one bride has cancelled her booking with Brookfield over his shameful behaviour.
One woman said: ‘It’s something you and your mates do when you are drunk? So this isn’t the first time you’ve p***** on someone?
‘Even in this ‘apology’ you are downplaying and justifying your actions by rationalising what you did.
‘Literally you p***** on a man when he was telling you he has prostrate cancer. It would still be abhorrent event if he didn’t have cancer.
‘The fact you’ve done it before and your friends do it too doesn’t make it alright.’
Another said: ‘If this is the norm for him, which appears it is, as he states about him and the boys.. then he should have given up the drink along with his kiddy friends a long time ago.
Another added: ‘That poor man complaining about his illness and he’s happy taking a p*** on him.’
He had been due to perform on Boxing Day night at the Stamps nightclub in Llanelli but the venue cancelled his booking as soon as it learned of the video.
Stamps said: ‘He (Brookfield) isn’t our DJ. He was booked as part of a 5 DJ set for a one off event and we subsequently cancelled him due to the video.’
