Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has explained why Kelechi Iheanacho was not in the Foxes’ squad for Saturday’s league clash with Plymouth Agyle.
Leicester remain atop of the Championship, a point ahead of Ipswich Town, following a comfortable 4-0 win against Plymouth.
Stephy Mavididi’s brace, alongside goals from Patson Daka and Wilfred Ndidi, was enough for Maresca’smen to claim another three points on home soil.
However, Maresca had to prosecute the game without some key players.
The 43-year-old provided some clarity on why Iheanacho, Jamie Vardy and Kasey McAteer all missed the game.
“Kel (Kelechi Iheanacho) is ill,” he revealed on lcfc.com.
“Jamie [Vardy] had some problem and Macca (Kasey McAteer) has a muscular problem. I don’t think [they will be in contention for Millwall]. We’ll see but it’s difficult.”
The Italian spoke on his team’s impressive performance.
“I’m very happy because, first of all, we completely deserved it. We were in complete control of the game apart from 10-15 minutes of the first half. But for me that is normal and we continue.
“Even with the ball in the first half, we conceded something, but we know how difficult it is and overall we completely deserved it.”
Iheanacho has made 20 appearances in all competitions m, scoring six goals and made two assists.
