The surprising reason why women love cupping their breasts: ‘Give ‘em a squeeze’

Boobs — they make people happy, and there’s science to support that.
Some women, including celebs like Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, and Lizzo, have a habit of cupping their own breasts, presumably because it sends happy hormones coursing through their bodies.
A 2020 TikTok from Cosmopolitan magazine that recently resurfaced gives viewers a “boob science lesson” about why women feel at peace when they cup their own breasts.
When you do that, “your pituitary gland is releasing oxytocin, which is the same chemical that releases when you snuggle with someone,” the video narrator explains.
“So if you’re feeling anxious or nervous or kinda scared, just go ahead and give ‘em a squeeze — and you already might be doing it without even thinking about it,“ she continued.
Oxytocin isn’t just tied to breast cupping.
The natural hormone also plays a big part during sex, childbirth and breastfeeding.
Stimulation of the nipples triggers its release, according to Medical News Today.
Those without boobs — don’t stress! You, too, can reap the self-soothing benefits.
Men have their own oxytocin-producing rituals, which involve them mindlessly putting their hands down their pants.
“Rubbing certain parts of your body (see: stomach, balls, junk in your trunk) in a non-sexual way releases oxytocin, a calming hormone which reduces nerves,” Dr. Babak Ashrafi, Superdrug Online Doctor’s sexual health specialist, told Cosmopolitan last month.
“Just don’t do it during your work presentation,” he added.
Some men can benefit simply by looking at breasts — just ask them.
Research has claimed that men who stare at women’s breasts live longer because it improves their mindset, which is good for their health and inspires them to exercise and stay on top of their medications.
