Williams have retained Logan Sargeant for the 2024 F1 season alongside Alex Albon.
Sargeant graduated through Williams’ Driver Academy to become their fourth driver to represent the team in F1, with a season-best finish of tenth at the US Grand Prix as he finished 21st in the driver standings and became the first American to score a point in F1 since 1993.
The 22 year-old American however has faced fierce criticism across his rookie campaign after making a series of errors, including a heavy crash in Qualifying for the Japanese GP.
His late-season performances however saw considerable progress as he qualified seventh for the Las Vegas GP, whilst he saw two lap times deleted for exceeding track limits in Q1 in Abu Dhabi despite having enjoyed a positive weekend up until that point at the season finale.
“I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season,” commented Sargeant upon renewal of his contract.
Sargeant added that this season “had been an incredible journey with the team so far,” and is “grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group.”
Williams Team Principal, James Vowles is “pleased” to retain Sargeant for another season alongside Albon for next season.
Vowles added: “Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team.”
The ex Mercedes Motorsport Strategy Director also iterated that Sargeant has the team’s support as he concluded: “We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.”
The 2024 F1 season will commence across the weekend of 29 February – 2 March in Bahrain, with Williams looking to build upon their seventh-placed finish of the 2023 campaign.
