Wilton Mall gets approval for luxury housing

WILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — As the new era of the digital age sweeps across the country and malls everywhere are shuttering in an online world, one area shopping center is trying to revamp itself. NEWS10 was at the Wilton Town Hall Meeting where developers proposed new plans for the dying mall.
The agenda for Thursday’s town hall meeting listed the proposal for the Wilton Mall evolution apartment project as a discussion only. But in a turn of events the town went ahead and voted on the proposal. All the members of the board voted in favor except Town Supervisor John Lant. “I am opposed” said Lant.
But one thing is for sure, the plan will go forward. “I’m not sure why they listed it as a discussion. But our goal after almost three years was to get a vote,” said Macerich Vice President of Development, Tawny Farmer.
Thomas Settle, Partner with Paramount Development says the proposed project will have nearly 400 new luxury rental units. “Right now, we will enter an intensive design period. It will involve engineering, site architecture. The vertical, the pretty stuff. The landscaping, all of that. We probably got about, typically, eight months of the design work,” said Settle.
Those luxury apartments kick off the project. “I want to say 296 apartments we’re calling phase one. And phase two across the street is a four-acre site we are showing 88 townhomes,” said Settle.
Paramount hopes to have both phases completed about the same time in the summer of 2026. The town folks here are elated with the news. “It seemed initially that it was never going to pass for a variety of reasons and concerns. Most of those concerns were baseless,” said Dr. of Ethics, Susan Parrillo-Home.
“My biggest concern has been this mall sinking into the ground as a blight,” said Parrillo-Home. The proposed project has a ticket price of about $120 million. A one-bedroom apartment is expected to list for $2000 a month. If all continues to go well shovels in the ground are expected this spring.
